Situated in the busy Cotswold tourist town of Stow on the Wold and being the Oldest Inn in England dating back to 947AD, The Porch House is a highly popular, premium, fresh food establishment situated in a beautiful and historic building.

Food is the primary driver of the Porch House’s success with food sales growing substantially year on year since 2019. By offering a fantastic guest dining experience, having13 Award Winning boutique bedrooms, and a reputation for high-quality food in the local area the Porch House is busy all year round, peaking through the summer months.

The Porch House Head Chef role is a great opportunity for a Chef who wants to lead a professional kitchen team and implement their expertise and knowledge of effectively managing high quality food standards, business profitability, team management, and health & safety. The successful candidate will be required to deliver food to the standards and specifications set by our Executive Chef. Our Head Chefs are also actively encouraged to create, design, and cost the specials dishes that change on a daily basis. Candidates should ideally either have prior Head Chef experience or have good, tried, and tested Sous Chef experience but be ready for the next step in their career.

What we are looking for:

  • Preferably a NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Cookingvel 3 or equivalent in Cooking
  • Food Hygiene level 3 or above
  • Strong Leadership skills

  • Keep It Simple - You are able to prioritise tasks and delegate to others when required, leading busy shifts with ease by communicating clearly and taking control.
  • Make It Fun - You can demonstrate a good level of self motivation, organisational and leadership skills, setting a great example for the wider team, you lead from the front and are able to train junior team members, pumping energy into the shift.
  • Dare To Care - You think on your feet and problem solve, allowing you to resolve any issues across all departments of the business when necessary and always strive to make things better.

    • Systems compliance company and legal –HACCP, Allergen updates, COSHH
    • Achieving budgeted payroll and margin targets
    • Controlling daily costs and managing annual budgets
    • Proactively solving problems and managing the business
    • Mentoring the Kitchen team to deliver consistency and quality
    • Total accountability for the day to day running of the service
    • Ensuring correct stock and stock rotation in use at all times
    • Monitoring daily deliveries and goods inward
    • Kitchen Maintenance, reporting and solving
    • Being the face of the kitchen for the team and guests
